Jagged Prestige
“Jagged Prestige” There has always been a phenomenon about how intense the attraction of two opposite beings can come together and create an intense unity as a whole. This can internalize in foods that are paired such as salty or sweet, glamour and grit in fashion as well as two opposite personalities and characteristics unified as a perfect fit when united. This is also known as the Yin Yang concept which brings two opposite forces together creating a sense of interconnection in the natural world. The concept of “jagged prestige” follows this similar concept. The goals of my body of work is to showcases the beauty and connection between two very different subject matters and collaborate them into a cohesive connection creating a sense of belonging, trust and poetic composition. The images are created to empower the symbolism of the mysteries of life that many of us as humans will never understand fully. Comprehension recognizes that some matches simply do belong together but when physically and emotionally broken down, they are actually quite the opposite, basically night and day. Photography is a medium that allows for the marriage of various items and subject matter brought together to create compelling compositions that truly can make an audience ponder the underlying meaning. Still life photography legends such as Edward Weston found a comparison of the sensuality of the human form within simple examples of produce and vegetables. This concept involved pristine lighting techniques and the ability to look past what initially the human eye sees. This is one inspiration how I originate the concept of “Jagged Prestige”. I wanted to connect simple yet elegant subjects with complex beings creating oneness together explaining the infatuation of opposite attraction and the sense of belonging in a diverse platform. There are many subject matters that are involved within this body of work. Natural items juxtaposed with harsh subjects such as, delicate materials connected with sturdy linen tools, fragile foods complimented by unusual kitchen utensils, precious stones and diamonds ordained with natural materials such as wood planks or rocks and unusual garden apparatuses paralleled with tantalizing flowers or foliage. My personal passion and confidence believes that two opposites do belong in life which has driven this project expanding new subject matter that I will continue to explore beyond this specific body of work. The paramount forces of nature and attraction is something that is beyond the human mind to control, the magmatism simply takes over this fascination. Attraction and complex connection is what makes life exciting, confusing, painful and joyful all in one contextual realm. This is what the voice of “Jagged Prestige” is driven to explain.
